GREEN PRODUCTION METHODS AND CHEMICALS
“SECOND GENERATION ALCHOHOLS AND BIO-GLYCOLS”
IPD Inc. has developed a chemical process where feedstocks from bio-mass is converted into valuable chemical products, mainly diverse glycols and alcohols. The process needs a considerable amount of thermal energy but fairly little electrical power, except in the case of hydrogen production by electrolysis. The main products from IPD’s G2G process is 1,2 Propylene glycol (PG) which is used for instance in deicing fluids for airplanes, production of polymer binding resin for glass fiber compounds for excample for the production of ship hulls and construction structures. PG is also used in lotions, shampoos and other personal care products.
The company operates a pilot scale testing system in hydrogenation technologies where the basic elements of the technology are tried out and strain tested. In such pilot systems it is also possible to measure the feedstock use, yield and product distribution. Long term tryouts that take many months or years are usually the basis before a technology is considered marketable.
More information about IPD and the G2G technology can be found in G2G-Glycerine To Glycols.
